Manitty, a neuroscience start-up serving human and animal health, sets up in Villeurbanne

Manitty develops medical diagnostic and monitoring solutions. The company has recently set up in Villeurbanne, within the Lyon metropolitan area, with the support of ONLYLYON Invest.

Manitty is a start-up dedicated to improving the well-being and health of both humans and animals. Its multidisciplinary team develops diagnostic and medical monitoring solutions based on expertise in neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and microelectronics. This young, innovative, and promising company—supported by the medical and scientific ecosystem of the Lyon metropolitan area—has just established operations in Villeurbanne, on the LyonTech–la Doua campus.

Manitty, a start-up revolutionizing medical diagnostics

Manitty has developed a diagnostic solution that optimizes patient care and monitoring. It enables the physical and brain condition of individuals to be measured at any time, including remotely. The solution relies on miniature, wearable sensors connected to an artificial intelligence platform. These sensors take into account around ten parameters—neurological, cardiac, pulmonary, and muscular—to provide a highly precise assessment of an individual’s overall health status. As a result, the solution can perform initial remote diagnostics, monitor patients in transitional care, oversee anesthesia, or generate digital surgical reports. In this way, it helps make the human and animal body easier to understand for everyone.

Manitty was founded in 2021 by Paul-Antoine Libourel, a research engineer in biomonitoring at the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center (CRNL), together with Philippe Blasquez and Pascal Garcin, both students in the Executive Master’s program at École Polytechnique. The company brings together highly skilled professionals with complementary expertise.

Partnerships with leading Lyon-area expertise

Manitty’s creation and growth have been made possible in part through local partnerships in the life sciences and healthcare sector, particularly in neuroscience. Although the start-up was incubated at École Polytechnique in Paris, it uses technologies developed at the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center (CRNL) and the Lyon Institute of Nanotechnology (INL). Leveraging research carried out in Lyon earned Manitty the Jean-Louis Gerondeau–Safran Award at its 11th edition in 2021. Designed to foster entrepreneurship, this award recognizes innovative projects led by teams from École Polytechnique and other schools within the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

Supported by Pulsalys, the technology transfer acceleration company (SATT), and by the CNRS RISE program, the digital health company ultimately chose the Lyon region to establish and expand its operations. In Lyon, Manitty benefits from a dynamic and comprehensive ecosystem covering the entire value chain of human and animal health.

As part of this ecosystem, Manitty joined the Lyonbiopôle competitiveness cluster in March 2023. The company has also partnered with veterinary schools in the Lyon metropolitan area and with the Parc de la Tête d’Or / Lyon Zoo to validate its solution in real-world veterinary use.

“We are delighted to announce our partnership with the Parc de la Tête d’Or. This collaboration aims to validate our cutting-edge application designed to digitize surgical processes for veterinarians. It represents a significant advancement in animal care and surgical management.”

Manitty also works with the Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL) to develop and deploy its solutions for human healthcare applications.

A successful establishment with the support of ONLYLYON Invest and the Lyon Metropolitan Authority

ONLYLYON Invest, the economic development agency for the Lyon region, supported Manitty at several stages of its establishment in Greater Lyon. The company benefited from tailored assistance in finding premises at 11–13 rue Albert Einstein in Villeurbanne, within the Einstein Business Center on the LyonTech–la Doua campus. ONLYLYON Invest also helped connect the start-up with local incubators and stakeholders, such as the Lyon Epilepsy Institute and the Pierre Wertheimer Institute.

The Lyon Metropolitan Authority is the main shareholder of the mixed-economy company that manages the Einstein Business Center where Manitty is based. This facility is dedicated to innovative companies and offers favorable conditions to support their development within the Lyon metropolitan area.
