Greening, a company specializing in green energy production, sets up in Lyon

Greening is a Spanish company specialized in the design, production, and implementation of green energy solutions. With the support of ONLYLYON Invest, backed by the Lyon Metropolitan Authority, it is opening its second office in France and establishing operations in Lyon’s 7th arrondissement.

Greening is a start-up with strong expertise in green energy, particularly photovoltaic panels, which it views as a key driver of sustainable development. By operating across the entire energy value chain, Greening offers 360-degree solutions focused on sustainability. In this way, it helps public and private organizations reduce their CO₂ emissions.

After establishing a presence in Paris, the company is now opening a new office in Lyon.

Greening, a key player in the energy transition

Greening was founded in 2011 by a group of engineers from the University of Granada (Spain). Specializing in photovoltaic panels, the start-up’s mission is to provide renewable energy solutions to both private and public organizations. It designs and builds industrial facilities that consume their own energy production. The company also implements solar water pumping systems and energy efficiency projects.

In addition, Greening has developed a comprehensive range of services to support its customers in their energy transition: manufacturing and maintenance of solar panels, engineering and construction of facilities, as well as the production and commercialization of green energy. Greening deploys its innovations and expertise through its seven subsidiaries: Greening-e, Sun Support, Greening Investments, Lidera Energia, Greening Relive, Greening O&M, and AEGRA.

Operating across three continents (Europe, Africa, and the Americas) and in seven countries (Mexico, the United States, France, Spain, Morocco, Italy, and Germany), the company and its 800 employees manage more than 2,000 energy supply sites powered by 100% green energy.

In total, Greening has already produced 200 megawatts through its self-consumption installations, avoiding the emission of 55,000 tons of CO₂.

Lyon, a favorable area for Greening’s development

Greening aims to become a leader in the renewable energy sector. Its strategy in France focuses on developing on‑site photovoltaic production projects. After opening an office in Paris in May 2023, the company chose Lyon to set up a new team in November 2023. In Lyon, its employment objectives mirror those of its Rome office, which tripled its workforce in three years—from 30 employees at the end of the first year to 100. The company also plans to establish its Sun Support subsidiary, which manufactures mounting structures for solar panels, in the Lyon metropolitan area by the end of 2024.

Greening chose the Lyon metropolitan area not only for its business potential but also to benefit from its excellence and supportive policies in ecotechnologies and energy.

The company therefore intends to build on these strengths by establishing a long-term presence with the opening of its offices at 23 rue Crépet in Lyon’s 7th arrondissement. This move will make it possible to offer additional green energy solutions while creating new job opportunities for residents of Greater Lyon.

An establishment supported by ONLYLYON Invest, backed by the Lyon Metropolitan Authority

The Lyon Metropolitan Authority is committed to supporting companies that contribute to the region’s energy transition and the development of clean, sustainable technologies. For example, it supports the production of decarbonized electricity and renewable energy. Even though the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region already has many players in the photovoltaic sector, the needs remain vast to ensure a successful transition.

As a result, the economic development agency for the Lyon region—ONLYLYON Invest—supported Greening in opening its Lyon office and integrating into the local economic ecosystem. How? By connecting the company with a lawyer specializing in energy law and an insurer for its ten-year liability coverage. The agency also introduced Greening to the photovoltaic ecosystem, identified relevant financial aid for launching the project, and supported the company in recruiting engineers.
